Herbert Walker Jr....the Advocate.

From his position as a union rep at the United States Post Office to his role assisting his son Herb Walker III at Walker Funeral Home, one word describes Herbert Walker, Jr: advocate. Demonstrated in everything he has done, Herbert Walker has made it a life goal to work on behalf of others, particularly the disadvantaged and underserved.

While at the Post Office as a union rep or national president, he helped advance the cause of women. As a strong proponent of family and equality, he recognized that women weren't getting the same advantages as men, due—in part—to the lack of opportunity for women at that time. What did he do? He advocated on their behalf, working to bring more women into the Post Office work force.

While at the Community Acton Agency as director of the HEAP program, he saw and felt the needs of two underserved gro-ups in society: low income families and senior citizens. This became a strong motivator for him. People had needs; he wanted to help.

As the patriarch of the Walker family, he encouraged his children to also recognize the need to advocate for others. This is one of the reasons why he supported his son's dream to start Walker Funeral Home to help families through a difficult time when they had lost loved ones. He enjoyed watching his son be motivated by what he had modeled--advocacy--over

over the years.
