I DO NOT RECOMMEND using J.F. Johnson Lumber for Marvin windows. They measured our replacement windows and every single one of them was 5/8" too short. When I told J.F. Johnson Lumber about this, I was told “Without taking every window out and boarding up the windows until the new ones come to be within 5/8” is very good.” I spoke to several contractors about this and they said that being off 5/8" was EXTREMELY BAD and they laughed about having to take out the windows in order to get an accurate measurement. In addition, J.F. Johnson Lumber didn’t know that Marvin takes the measurements and then does an adjustment. In my opinion, they do not know what they are doing, even though they are an authorized Marvin dealer. This also makes me wonder what sort of quality control Marvin places on their authorized dealers.

I decided to elevate this to the VP of J.F. Johnson Lumber. I asked the VP of J.F. Johnson Lumber to come to my house and see for himself that the windows were too short. I lose 5/8" of glass (and light) on every window and the interior trim is too large on the bottom. Once the VP saw the windows, he compensated me for my additional out of pocket expenses caused by the 5/8" deficit, and agreed to replace 2 windows that don't have window treatments (most of my window treatments are lace, so I still lose light with the rest of the windows but the trim issue isn't quite as obvious).

This business dealing started in early July, when J.F. Johnson Lumber order a “test” window to make sure the windows would fit. And yes, the “test” window was measured wrong. The rest of the windows arrived in late August, and, as stated above, they were all measured wrong. In mid October, the 2 correct windows arrived (my installer did the measurements). So, this disaster started in early July and ended in mid October AND 16 of my 19 windows are not right (fortunately, my large picture window frame had to be rebuilt, so the 5/8” deficit isn’t noticeable). However, I will never be happy with these windows. It was a VERY UNPLEASANT and VERY EXPENSIVE business dealing (I spent over $19,500 with J.F. Johnson Lumber for these windows), not to mention causing great emotional distress.

If I had it to do over, I would have used a highly rated Marvin dealer on Angie's list, Yelp, Better Business Bureau or Checkbook. My advice, run from this company. They do not know what they are doing and don’t seem to mind that 16 of my 19 windows are wrong. Absolutely the worst company I have ever had dealings with. Expensive and upsetting lesson for me.
