This realtor lied to us right before closing. It has been the worst experience of our lives. When we went to the walk through, which was the morning before closing, the house looked terrible. It was marketed as a "brand new house," but nothing was finished. The walls were only primed even though we were told they would be painted. The ceilings had (and still have) big patches and are not painted. The baseboard's nail holes were not filled and painted over, and could be easily pulled apart from the wall in several places. The sink leaked within the first day after we moved in. The house was dirty, with saw dust still everywhere. The rug edges were coming up and unraveling. Tom promised us that we could just create a punch list and they would get everything done in a timely manner, to our satisfaction. We asked if we should create the punch list then and have them sign off saying they would fix what we wanted done- and he said no, that wasn't necessary because it would delay closing and they'd never had any complaints. After we signed, the story totally changed. Now it's, "Well, you saw the house a month agpo and were fine with the downstairs at that time, so why are you all of a sudden not fine with it now?" Since then, we've also had leaks in the basement and from the master bathroom shower. They had to cut two holes in our downstairs ceiling to fix it. We asked to have a master plumber come fix the items, instead of the same inept people who didn't do the job right the first time, and our request was blatantly ignored, now by his sister, who has taken over the company Tom sells for, who was his father. Needless to say, we've contacted a lawyer to find out what our rights are in this situation. Do not buy from this man. He will lie to your face. He also lied about never having had a complaint. We didn't have to go any farther than 2 of our own neighbors to find complaints. They've told us that they wish they were around to warn us about him and his family's business. No complaints? What a joke. After almost 2 months, they are doing some of the things we've asked for, but we were lied to about so much, including the house being "brand new." Apparently it sat in another state for a while, then was brought up to Maine for a realty show, and was then transported here. Total false advertising. I just wish someone had been there to look after us in this process, like our own realtor, who didn't peep up once about Tom and his family's reputation. All these people wanted to do was sell a house and get their commission. Do not buy from, or do business with anyone with the last name Cole. They don't care about you. I have no idea how they're still selling homes.
